Radvent Cardigan

I got an advent from Love and Speckles and being a little at a loss with what to do with yet another advent sized shawl I wanted to turn the mini-skeins into a wearable instead. I arranged for and purchased another 3 100gm skeins in a grey to contrast with the minis and intended to use it for the cuffs, band and have leftovers to add to my stash.

Modifications, pattern notes, errata.

Rather than working a gradient from one sleeve tip to the other I wanted to have a symmetrically coloured finished object. So instead I reduced the number of rows for each colour so my gradient went from wrist to shoulder, and then worked its way back again until it reached the centre of the back.

I increased as per pattern directions until the number of sleeve stitches was 150. I wasn’t finished the sleeve length by then so I just kept knitting rows until I was at my shoulder and up to increasing for the body.

Progression

Towards the wrist the stripes were wider to use a bit more of the yarn due to the rows being shorter. As the rows increased in stitch count the colour use reduced in row count. After transitioning from the sleeve to the body, each colour was 6 rows. As I worked the back I went back through the gradient towards purple again; each colour block was 4 rows. This was calculated using row gauge and the distance from one side of my neck to the other.

Finishing
Wet block after a good soaking, no colour runs and it took ages to dry because of the quantity of yarn involved.

I probably wouldn’t make another one because it’s a lot more sleeve than I prefer and not enough torso coverage even after I tried to increase it with a wider band.
